How a digital detox can give you a better connection
Running a business can be exhausting, especially when you are doing everything on your own.
I don’t know about you, but I find myself spending a lot of the time on social media in the evenings answering messages or responding to a Facebook comment, rather than relaxing, watching a TV show I had pre-recorded or spending time with my husband.
There there’s time spent on marketing my business, sharing advice and tips, chatting to other business owners, commenting and responding to posts within the different networking groups I belong to.
There are times when I just need a detox from social media and take some time out for myself. If I don't take care of myself I become stressed, unwell and rundown.
During the recent school holidays, I spent 5 days camping off-grid with my family. We stayed in a tranquil spot within the Wollemi National Park where there was no power or phone coverage. It was bliss! I managed to read 2 books and spent quality time with my family exploring the area, playing games, looking for wildlife and relaxing by the river.
Having that time away from the computer & mobile phone was so important not just for myself but also for my kids and husband.
I found by having a digital detox from social media allowed me to unwind and be more present with my family as I wasn’t checking posts or responding to emails. When I returned to the office I felt rested and energized! And as a family, we all enjoyed our time away together.
When you can find the time, switch off your phone for an hour, or try a digital detox from social media for a whole weekend and enjoy time in nature. I find bushwalking in the mountains helps clear my mind and gives me the energy I need to tackle whatever tasks I have on my to-do list when I return to the office.
Do you ever take a digital detox? How do you unwind from work?
